Towards the end of the school year, a friend of mine (who was a pretty decent hacker) got expelled and sent to military school. Before he left he sold me his laptop for a dollar. Im technically just baby sitting it but w/ ever. We sat down in the hall at school and he turned it on, it was running Ubuntu. He created me an account with a really complex randomly generated password, which i foolishly wrote on my arm. I gave him the dollar and got the laptop, and the next day he was gone. I managed to memorize the password and wrote it down in a notebook that i promptly lost. I loved using linux for the first time, it was awesome. Unfortunately i left it at my dads house on accident for like a month, and have completely forgotten the password, and i cant figure out how to get in.

I would be grateful for any suggestions.
Thanks.

Use a liveCD.

And consult google *before* you post!
