Can't seem to get .jar file types to work. I have jre/javaws at /home/user1/jre/javaws

When I try
java -jar filename.jar
I get bash: java: command not found

The file exists, the file is located in /home/user1/desktop/ and I am running shell in /home/user1/desktop/

I can open it with ark, all files are .class
I tried making the .jar executable and tried to run it in shell, tried swapping folders to /home/user1/ - With no success.
Any more requires info please let me know. OS is linux

Thanks for your help =)
