I like this set up already stated...made a few minor adjustments...

Skiddy = 0
Newbie = 5
Apprentice = 100
Wiseman = 200
Moderate = 350
Active user = 500
Mad user = 700
Monster = 1000
Hacker level 1 = 1300
Hacker level 2 = 1700
Hacker level 3 = 2000
Elite = 2200
Uber elite = 2500
Too elite to determine = 3000
Guru = 3250
God = 3750+

well i believe that we should take max points and do this

0% of max = guest
0-5% of max = newbie
6-15% of max = starter
16-25% of max = regular user
26-50% of max = h-level1
51-60% of max= h-level2
61-70% of max = h-hevel3
71-80% of max = elite
80-90% of max = uber elite
91-100% of max= too elite do determine

100% of max+ = guru

sth like this would be my approach.

Someone who cant pass the so-called 'Idiot test' doesn't make them a 'skiddie'. Think about what you just said.

Why even give them a title? Just say "No Rank" or something that says that we have nothing to base what they can do on. "Skiddys" and "newbies" are NOT THE SAME THING! There is a very large distinction that should not be blurred! Skiddys aren't nessicarily stupid and can't hack, they just don't do the work, likewise not all (actually vary few) skiddys actually know what they are doing. The rank "Newbie" shows welcome w/o proving yourself. The first thing that should happen if your first login is that it should have a popup that says "you currently have no rank, please complete a mission to qualify for a rank. We recommend Basic 1 because it is essential for all hacking" or something to that effect.

This is a technique used in selective sociology social psychology (I love psych) called "Base skill acceptance system." In other words, we welcome them but we refuse to aknolege the skill unless they prove themselves on the "Base skill." It would make the point w/o shoving it into their face, but hey...I don't run the site.

Just an idea

Why are we so lazy here?
This is my copy and paste job;) :

$dataP = $forumPosts + $tableRow['points'];

if($dataP < "20"){
return "Guest";
} elseif ($dataP >= "20" & $dataP < "200"){
return "Newbie";
} elseif ($dataP >= "200" && $dataP < "350"){
return "Apprentice";
} elseif ($dataP >= "350" && $dataP < "500"){
return "Moderate";
} elseif ($dataP >= "500" && $dataP < "700"){
return "Wiseman";
} elseif ($dataP >= "700" && $dataP < "950"){
return "Active User";
} elseif ($dataP >= "950" && $dataP < "1200"){
return "Mad User";
} elseif ($dataP >= "1200" && $dataP < "1500"){
return "Monster";
} elseif ($dataP >= "1500" && $dataP < "1700"){
return "Hacker Level 1";
} elseif ($dataP >= "1700" && $dataP < "1900"){
return "Hacker Level 2";
} elseif ($dataP >= "1900" && $dataP < "2100"){
return "Hacker Level 3";
} elseif ($dataP >= "2100" && $dataP < "2450"){
return "Elite";
} elseif ($dataP >= "2450" && $dataP < "2700"){
return "Uber Elite";
} elseif ($dataP >= "2700" && $dataP < "3200"){
return "Guru";
} elseif ($dataP >= "3200") {
return "God";
}

But it evens it out, being on a site were the majority of people who are active are "too elite to determine" is very unrealistic.

i don't think the beggining rank should be Guest, i don't think it sounds very welcoming to new members. I don't see what's wrong with Newbie. It works now, so why change it ?
