I just inherited my bro's old PII. Go ahead ask me wtf am I doing with an old POS. I have a few old computers that I am going to run linux on and try make a network for educational purposes.
Anyways Since you guys like challenges it seems, I have a tricky one.

1. My computer can't be reformatted.
It freezes in the middle of doing so.
2. Cannot install things.
I have not tried to manually installing anything yet, which I may try if it is possible.
3. I have no internet.

So I can't install Dlink on my comp. Therefore I cannot install Powermax to fix the formatting problem. (This computer was used and abused, I guess he watched too much porn on it. :\Wink

I may have an idea... But so far my ideas have not been successful.
Please help! :matey:

Great tutorial, is the wiping of the ass really necessary though?
Is there any other options? Without the poop and smashing?

Actually that is the first thing I tried. I put the CD in and it froze halfway thorugh installation. Like I said, formatting is not an option.

Try formatting with a new disc, the one you're using may have a scratch. If that doesn't work, you've probably got a bum hard drive (usually in that case you would see some errors like 'unmountable boot volume' or something, but that's a typical message on a BSOD for a shit hard drive.)
If you do get a hard drive, don't install Windows on it, try going with Minix, you may be able to utilize it as much as you can and maybe get a chuggy semi-stable standalone web/irc server out of it.
This assuming your hard drive's not fucked.

Damn you guys are quick. I had a feeling someone say trash the hdd. I was hoping I could fix it in case I had a problem like this where it actually mattered and wasn't my computer.

It was not the disc that was scratched. It was a brand new Ubuntu cd that i burned. I tried two of them. Then I switched it over to puppy linux. Still didnt work. The hdd is worth about 5 dollars because it is old and has little space.

So maybe I'll get an external hard drive now. I can see a few uses for that. Anyways, Dx3 I am giving up windows. I will only have it running on one of my computers just because everything is compatible with it. I'm just starting to use linux and I'll stick with Ubuntu since its so popular.

Thank you everyone for your input.Smile
