Right, I was fucking with my mates computer, as you do Pfft, and desided to set a password on his computer. It's the password that comes up as soon as you turn on your computer and then windows boots up and you have to login. I may have thought i knew the password but apparently i didn't. He can't get on his computer which sucks and his mum is eating into him, and me, because shes a teacher and its her computer (that she doesn't use much) I don't think the alme ass admins they brought it to could do anything, and said something about 150 pound to fix it. So if they say they can fixed it then someone else must have an idea for getting around it.

(i have considered putting a magnet to it cause i don't think that she needs her files?)

Thanks for replies and attempts to help!

you set the BIOS password? or did you set the Windows XP password?

If Windows XP then boot into safe mode and log in as admin (90% chance no password as it is with most store bought computers) and reset the password.

That is the best way Wink

if you set a pword to the harddrive, you can usually bypass that by setting a system password. and then logging into it. you see my friend dropped her laptop, and the harddrive done that protect thing, and put a pword on itself. she phoned dell and they couldnt help. i fiddled about with it and i set a system pword. upon startup it asked for the system pword. the system pword must override the hd one. it then loaded up windows and everytnig. it was great. i then got her coursework back, and she go her grade!!!!!!!!!! lol

but yeah

thats what worked for me, even though they say it cant be done...

lol, boot password,
ok, what u do is open ur comp,
on the motherboard there are some switches (little plastic things that cover some metal prongs)
down in the bottom right corner near the proceessor is a switch, it has 3 prongs with a plastic thing covering only two, take it off, reboot the comp, it will reset to default bios configuration (without pass) and then after it is done doing that it will turn off, u put the switch back on on the same position , and then turn comp back on and everything will be just like normal,
also, if u dont put it on the right way and u put it on the wrong two prongs not the way it was ebfore, it will check the floppy drive for a new bios configuration so if u ever want to install new version of bios that is how u do it

laptops are very tricky to get around. go look at a guide online for opening one up before attempting to open it up. alot of things are springloaded in a laptop.

This site might help. http://www.dewassoc.com/support/bios/bios_password.htm

or this one http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/reference/biosp.htm which has some 'backdoor' passwords which you could try if you know the bios make.

yuea that will work, also sometimes you will see a small battery like thing on the motherboard. I think that if you take it off for about 5-10 minutes and put it mack. it should have reset itself. It might depend on your vendor or w/e lol.
it's worth a try.B)

oh...it's a laptop....ugh....dunno about that .....heheheGrin
