cd C:\John\run

"The system cannot find the path blah blah.."

That's why I wanted help on aim, it'd be faster and less confusing. :ninja:

hey this is what i've did and it works. just go to openwall.net, and redownload the windows binary one and save it to a folder in the C:\ drive like C:\JOHN\ then go to C:\windows\system32\ copy your cmd.exe not shortcut copy paste it to C:\JOHN\ and use the cmd in JOHN and it will recognize it easier

cd C:\John\john1701\run

C:\John\john1701\run>john-386 --wordlist="passwords.lst" crackme.txt

what is the difference between john-386 and john-mmx?

Yeah, once you know where you downloaded it to, just browse to the executable in Explorer, and pay attention to the path. Pop open a command prompt, "cd" to that path, and go to town.

It's really not that hard. If you need any more help, feel free to PM me.

I downloaded it, moved JOHN to C:\ but in a different folder..accidently f'ing highlighted it and now I can't move, delete, rename or anything at all with it. It's completely un-usable. I don't see why the fuck I get denied access to my own damn shit on a root account.

Did you try restarting the computer? The most likely reasons for why you "get denied access to your own shit when you're an admin" are:

1. The file is in use. Maybe WinZip or WinRAR are open. Restarting just cleans the slate, and is probably easier than finding whatever has it tied up.

2. You downloaded a "tainted" package of JTR. Try a different download location... last I checked, insecure.org has a download link for it.

Don't just get pissed off... do the hard part and fix it.
