I am trying to download updated packages for Linux, but whenever I try to do this a window appears and reads exactly this...

"An error occured

The following details are provided:

E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report."

I have two questions.

1. What does this mean?

2. How do I solve this problem?

I know I will MOST LIKELY get my ass flamed constantly for posting this, but I have no idea of what to do.

Code
cd /var/lib/dpkg/updates
rm *

Seems as though you have a corrupted file in your update folder. Remove those and try your operation again.

I am the machine that reveals the truth to you as only I can see it.

Memories are nice, but that\'s all they are....memories.

You can\'t ever find a place that\'s nice and peaceful, because there isn\'t any. You may think there is, but once you get there, when you\'re not looking, somebody\'ll sneak up and write \'Fuck you\' right under your nose.

well that's always the next option, but removing recently acquired updates is generally more likely to fix the issue than delving into your hidden files...
