My school, Centennial, with the website http://www.fultonschools.org/school/centennial/, is seriously pissing me off with this 8e6 Technologies internet filter. First it was okay. Mainly because I had a ton of proxy websites I could use. In the second semester they now blocked ALL web proxies. This includes the ".redirect.keljob.com" and boredatschool.net and all others I can think of. This week they blocked GMAIL. I was also searching for "satan" today to find a scary pic and they blocked it. It was under "cults". For fun I then searched for "nazi", BLOCKED!
Hey, I know! Instead of educating our young on why these things are wrong, let's ignorantly block them. It's not like they can find this information in other places SUCH AS A LIBRARY. This can't continue. My question is, what can I do to get around this filtering? Is there a low-risk way to get past it without proxies or somehow connecting to a proxy without the program working?
Help guys! Fight for virtual freedom before it enslaves us all!

Your best bet is to go to your school's techs and bitch about it for a few hours. Heck, even get some concerned parents in on it, and they're powerless.

There easy to get round.
Either run your own PHProxy, I run one on my web area
or try using secure servers

At my school, they've blocked everything that I can think of that is even slightly wrong or illegal, or involved with hacking or anything. Except HBH isn't blocked. And using the IP addresses doesn't work, because it's something that's on the page that is blocked, anything to do with certain catergories. The catergories that I've worked out are blocked so far are things like 'HACK'(anything to do with cheats, hacking, phreaking, or whatever. Except HBH, strangly enough), 'MALCODE'(things like keyloggers and IP scanners), and "CRIME'(some hacking sites are classed under that)
It's a seriously annoying blocking. Anyone know a way to get past that?

Back when I was in highschool my programming class and I took it upon ourselves to "test" the restrictions. we found that teen was not filtered but playboy was. hmmm both can bring funky stuff
upon further investigation we found the filter and a few weeks later nothing was filtered anymore...I was not the one who did it but I am sure it was one of the programming guys
needless to say easiest way to get past any security is Social Engineering! Sweet talk the tech. That is the best way

A few months ago, back when eveyone at my school was interested in myspace, and its blocked of course. So i used a proxy site to get on it...everyone found out about proxys and now they won't work, plus...if they find out you're using one they will send you to the office and write you up for defience. I don't see the reason to try to get on anymore...i mean there is nothing on the internet that is blocked that can't wait until i get home.
im just surprised this site is not blocked, because I'm at school right now. |

Generally theres a reason they block these things in school. If u really wanna see em, jst wait a couple hours till schools over and do it at home...

Agreed.
However, 8e6 is by no means bulletproof. I found an XSS vuln in their R3000 filter. You can find the write up of the vuln at http://n3w7yp3.bl. . .lters.html.
Still, its not a good idea to mess with your schools filters. Just leave well enough alone.

I'll look into that and no, I really don't want to get in trouble at school so if this is risky...
BTW is there some sort of magic that prevents filters from blocking HBH because we have words such as hack, crack, and track (had to make it rhyme, you understand) all over.
