i was wondering how i would go about finding a what kind of encryption a hash is..for example, i found this hash: ZAXZuaRE1G2L2, and i was wondering how i would find out what kind of encryption it is.

Well one way is to type them into
http://www.securitystats.com/tools/hashcrack.php
It's an online cracker for SHA1, NT, LANMAN, MD4 and MD5 hashes. If the hash is in their database, you get the password + format, otherwise you get the format.

Btw, JtR can also auto-detect what type a hash is.
