Hackers Essentials
By Djdotti.

Heyy guys, I have decided to make up a list of things you should have if you are a hacker or just a random like me ^-^.
Hokay here it goes:

A good Machine To work off.
The internet
A brain
Windows (yuck , but I use it ...) or Linux ... Idk which one..
An email address!

Core FTP
Artmoney (For basic memory editing)
Flash decompiler
An IRC viewer/chat program.
Cain Abel
Jack the Ripper

Various addons for firefox such as:
Add n edit cookies
Web developers toolbar
Referer/spoof addon
user agent switcher..

I will be adding to this as I think of more!! So keep checking back !

You've forgot the most important thing...the brain.. nice work dude
richohealeyon July 29 2007 - 18:23:51

koolkeith12345on July 29 2007 - 19:33:00
dont forget putty and tor. i yeah maybe a decent ftp client.
minermonkon July 29 2007 - 20:15:41 have submitted a list and it somehow got past the about some explinations? what are all these things you've listed? why are they essential? and i think richo already mentioned: JACK = killer ::: JOHN = not a killer
johnjuan728on July 29 2007 - 21:00:26
nah... john's a killer ^_^
alfredwolfon July 29 2007 - 22:45:27
you might want to put some skills in mathematics I'm sure combinatorics and finite field theory should be there along with graph theory.
Flaming_figureson July 30 2007 - 00:46:21
Add n edit cookies is a waste of space when you have web dev. Also, I suggestdual-booting linux and windows is amazing if you are smart enough to secure it properly. (ok, xp if your smart, vista doesn't matter, everything else... BURN)
spywareon July 30 2007 - 03:19:23
Worst article ever. I'll ask a mod to delete this piece of crap.
lesserlightsofheavenon July 30 2007 - 04:29:47

I really hated this article. I mean, it isn't article at all. You can't learn anything new from this. You didn't mention any advanced tool/program. pfft
lukem_95on July 30 2007 - 19:00:44
You missed about 40 programs/tools that i would consider important
mr noobon July 30 2007 - 23:19:30

kaksiion July 31 2007 - 13:30:11
What the fucking fuck? 13 people rated awesome? Richo can you tell us the names of the people who voted?
spywareon July 31 2007 - 17:12:28
The "awesome" voters are accounts created by someone (probably djdotti). They are twelve new accounts with weird random names.
DarkMessiahon July 31 2007 - 21:27:35
This is the biggest load of wasting-my-time crap i have ever read...
djdottion August 08 2007 - 23:59:50
If you think it wastes your time .. Dont read it .. Dont bother wasting your time commenting on it..
Malson August 09 2007 - 13:32:45

poor isn't quite the word it's more like "sucks"
root_opon August 22 2007 - 10:43:54
PS. As Mr Noob said, XAMPP is essential, but i recommend you add extension = php_curl.dll in your apache/bin/php.ini file, can't believe they forgot to add cURL in there :/

Well, I rated a poor, so I feel obliged to explain. First, most of the programs listed a really unnecessary (most linux distros are pre-installed with the open ssh client, all machines these days have an ftp client installed, firefox is nice but not a necessity, all the addons are fun toys, but really not needed) Line by Line: line 1. I've always though articles should be at least a bit formal. At the very least, avoiding simple spelling and grammar errors. line 4. You state people should have a "good machine," but you never define this phrase. For me, a good machine is one with a NIC, some version of *nix installed and enough RAM to run X and a graphical browser (for simplicity's sake), as well as clients for popular protocols installed. line 5. The internet? Really. I don't even know what to say to this. line 8. Why in god's name would a cracker use windows? Most scripts that are used for enumeration and pen testing were written on, and for, the *nix platform. There are few exceptions. line 9. Why is an email address necessary, again? Sure, it's nice, but you can get by without one. grouping of all the tools: These aren't really essentials, they are nice addons. Most of them are just graphical interfaces for command line tools that most people should be able to use anyway. WTF at a flash decompiler? Short of hacking games aimed at 10-year-olds or breaking into sites that are completely inconsequential, I don't see why this is necessary. And if you're going to advocate windows (which you refer to negatively) OR linux, at least give alternative tool sets for linux. Short of challenges are HBH and the like, no web master goes to the trouble of checking referrers and user-agents. There's just no benefit: everyone knows they are easy to spoof and it's like installing an encryption system then passing out a private key to every user: if the site matters, that means hundreds or thousands of private keys in circulation: it's only a matter of time until one of them falls into the wrong hand.
TotcoSon September 15 2007 - 08:01:34
Definitely throw in netcat, nessus, sam spade, nmap, sl, all pstools, metasploit, milw0rm, tight ass fucking security boot disks. Put bt2, phlak, knoppix, and dvl in there. I only dual boot windows/fedora because I somewhat like windows.
Zephyr_Pureon January 06 2008 - 03:33:08
Funny how all 12 awesome ratings were made within the same hour. Don't believe I've ever seen any article that well received; even a high-quality one. How pathetic do you have to be to create random accounts to rate your own article Awesome? Why don't you just try to write an "Awesome" article and be done with it? I'm glad you're finally leaving; you won't be missed, you useless pile of crap.
