as you may have noticed we are setting up "Other Challenges"
These challenges will be general computer challenges, and wont carry much points, however will help new commers learn new skills. Which is what HBH is all about.. Learning :)

Challenges will include things such as:

design a animated colourful gif image = 5 points

set up your own website = 10 points

code your own simple CMS in php = 30 points

install and run linux = 15 points

etc etc etc

So what ideas do you have / want for challenges?

This is a really good idea. I have an idea:

Maybe find an exploit for a well-known internet Bulletin Board or CMS?

How about:
* learn a programming language that isn't VB or web-based
* make a sig for someone
* use Firefox
* thank an admin for all the hard work they do
... that's all I can think of for now

Capitalization is the difference between "I had to help my uncle Jack off a horse.." and "I had to help my uncle jack off a horse.."

Damn, glad you made me d/l FireFox if that's going to be a challenge, but you know, it'll just be like basic 3, just a giveaway for FireFox users.

Just thought of a challenge!

Ok, right maybe there could be a challenge were you have to do research on certain things to do with computers.

For example,

Describe what a TCP/UDP.

Hope you like the "Idea" lol.

:pWatcher

how illegal would it be to have submit a defacement of a site?

My first thoughts are it would be illegal, but then again isnt there a whole
site dedicated to submitting defacements??

Well that would be like giving a reward for defacing sites, if you get what i mean.
I like the idea, and i would like to see it, but it is up to the owners of the site to decide.

P.S Mr cheese you have some good ideas ;)

i'm fairly certain that it would not be illegal. but, just to be sure, you could put up a disclaimer, something like:

"This site does not endorse defacements and is neither connected nor affiliated with any of these sites or the people who defaced them."

then again, i'm not a legal expert by any means, so a decent lawyer could probably find a dozen loopholes in that statement ;)

course, setting up a reward would for defacing websites seems kinda skiddieih (stop the infection!). maybe an idea in this vein of thought could eb to hack up an HTML page of what peopel think the coolest defacement would be and then have them be judged.

true, but defacements would only be like hacktivist defacements. Hacking a girls poetry site will result in the user being banned. However hacking a right winged, white pride site and posting some nice intelligent defacement, then that would be looked apon as ok.

alright then thats cool. i just didn't want HBH to sucumb to the skiddie infection ;)

and as too what wolfmankurd posted, people should get a special notation on the profile if they dont use windows. i think that would be cool

So what happens when you use multiple OSes? I have WinXP, 2000 server, Fedora Core, and have used debian.

well what i was thinking was more along the lines of a little notation that was like "Open source user" or somesuch. of course, the notaion could just be what OS you use. but, idk, i personally hold Open Source OSes higher than porpritary ones (eg: windows). of course this is just me.

why dont you set something up on your server that you would build a website. Then let it be far game. Anyone who can tag there name on it can have braggin rights. ( mabey points to but to make it points it would have to be a harder hack.)

..::edit::..

Also if you decide to do this make sure to clean the wall ( clear the site of names) at least every 2 weeks. After a while they will start to build up and you wont be able to read them anymore.

Oi! Mr. Cheese, if you wish to have me setup any more legal notifications like the "Site Legal" just let me know; Anything to help this community.

Also an idea could be:

-submit an alternate theme of HBH, massive points if completely re-designed perhaps

-submit defacements that are as Mr_Cheese said for hacktivism; and it would be such as posting on the news page and putting something about your cause; No server hacks, no complete deletion;

-submit a website, which then becomes open game for anyone, if no one can find an exploit (That is useable) to post on the site in some way, for a set amount of time (Two weeks anyone?), then they receive points, if not, the one who cracked it receives some points...

Many other ideas if you like these...

Yes, but they have a disclaimer most likely and also a legal release; We have neither;

Also, is that eye in the top right of your sig moving !? or have I just been staring at the screen for too long?
