Could we get some sort of update on HBHv2?

1) Where is Mordak on it?
2) What's done, what's left to do?
3) Any way the community can help the process along?

It's understandable that such a project can take a while, even longer than projected, but without letting the community know what the hell is going on it's looking like it's just dying.

Mordak was overtaken by his 93 cats in a violent coup that lasted days, and is no longer dev'ing the site, as they have hijacked his computer.

No. - courtesy of Mordak

also, obligatory lolv2. We'd all love to help, but only 1-2 people may work on the site at all times according to mordak and cheese. I suggested a BSD style code submission state where we send our improvements on the source code to the devs for review and they'd choose the best, but none of that either. Also no open source.

Aw shit. Why aren't they letting you or other devs in on the project? yours3lf is a professional webdev and richo is always around. If not them, then at least throw the bits they need help with by the more talented members and let's get this bitch finished.

I have no database nor file access on this server. Thus, I am not responsible for any thing, besides accepting answers and forum/shoutbox posts.

Edit:
Every other Administrator is also in no way affiliated to Hbh v2; Mordak and Cheese are the only ones with File and Database access, as war as I am aware.

Huh. Interesting, thanks for the clarification. So, in this case, I'm assuming the only person who can comment on the state of HBHv2 would be Mordak himself? (I'm leaving Cheese out of this as he never logs in anyway.)

I just got off the phone with Mordak. Sadly he's had some health issues which have taken priority over development. He's now got a colleague working on it along side him and it's sounding totally kick ass!

Theres been considerable re-writes to his previous version and slight restructures which makes it much easier to develop with. Now theres a good framework and core in place, you should be seeing a lot more hbh v2 updates.

The theme system is fantastic, and totally allows anyone to very easily make their own themes. So expect a few designs going around.

The development side of things is structured in such a way that anyone can build a feature that can be "plugged in" to HBH... providing we've assessed your code of course ;)

One question he wants me to ask is... how do people feel about OpenID and Facebook integration?

Also, if anyone has ideas, features, tweaks you want to be in HBH v2 that we may not have thought about you are more than welcome to get your code up on pastebin and post the links here.

Mordak has said he's happy to look at any code you guys submit and we'll let you know if it makes it into the final cut with full credit given.

No to facebook.
Never heard of OpenID, but after googling it and looking at their site, I'm going to have to agree with Fant, and say no.

i agree with everyone else on the point that there should'nt be facebook integration . But it'd be great if there was some sort of a chat system.

You trust the (security of) HBH DB more than the OpenID databases?

I thought there was only one way to implement OpenID: secure. I've never rolled it myslf though. What could HBH fuck up whilst using it?

True, but you could say this of everything that uses SSL. No trust agility, and certificates/https errors aren't being understood properly by >95% of the people.

Except the damage caused with OpenID will be of much larger scale, than just a hbh account. Therefore, I think it would not be smart to implement.

I thought OpenID allowed you to become an ID issuer, so you could create a HBHID (http://hellboundhackers.org/_profilename_) that is unique to this site.

Alright, awesome. Thanks for the status update :)
Health issues are understandable, best wishes to Mordak.

I would have to say a resounding "no" to any form of FB integration.
I'm not very familiar with OpenID's model, but I wouldn't be against integration with that. Might be even useful, but from the sounds of what FantASM is saying it'd need to be implemented with care.

Does HBH have an SSL cert? Having full-SSL for the site would be a nice feature.

Very stoked to see the plugin system though :)
Thanks again Mr_Cheese.

Who cares about SSL certs anymore? (I do, too). Watch the Moxie talk I linked to in a previous post, it might clear a few things up.

Who are you getting to sign the certificate?

I'll I got to say is, After 6yrs on this site and many talks about HBH ver2.0
(One in the admins thread a while ago that I sent countless hours doing mock-ups and database structures and it went NOWHERE!) I just want to see some results finally.

Also fuck no to any facebook crap at all. (God I hate that site)
OpenID would be a nice feature but it must be set up correctly to keep it secured.

I'm pretty sure that's the point of view for most of HBH.
It is nice to see progress however, which is why I had asked.

Oh, we are supposed to be involved with the project here. How cool.:ninja:B):ninja:
Fuck this, how do you get a ninja smiley with ninja shades?

That applause I receive from y'all on posting this post would have gotten me drunk on power if I hadn't already been high on life.
