I was thinking of setting up a paypal account to handle charity donations for xmas / new years.
This is why i think HBH should have a charity fundraiser:
- We are far more fortunate that millions of other people in the world
- We would be helping a lot of people, even if collectively we donate just $200
- The donation to the charity will be titled "from members at HellBound Hackers"
- If we raise enough to gain media attention, it would show that hackers arent bad people
If this happens, HBH will donate most of its profits for 1 or 2 months to go towards this fundraiser.
What are you views? Would you donate?

If I could I would donate.
Maybe I could convince a friend of mine to donate something with me, his da trusts paypal enough . It will be around $15 to $50, depending on how much pocket money we got left
I think there alot of people here who have the same problem, willing to donate but an external cause (read: my dad) doesn't want to do it of thinks it not safe

This sounds like a great idea to my!
Showing the outsiders that (the most, 'real' ) hackers are good people.
But like Cell says not every one who wants to donate can do soo. I'm still not old enough to have my own 'visa' or 'credit card' or what ever is expected by paypall. And why don't have card paypall expect
If you want realy want te reach every one (this way you'll get the most money) you should try finding outhers way's to soo (almost) every one can donate.
If i can i'll donate for sure.

Great idea, in fact its one of he best I've heard in a while.
I don't have a credit card, so I'm unable to donate unless there is some other way i could send money..
Any ideas?

Unfortunatly, i wouldn't be able to donate
But, concerning the charity it goes to, i dont think it should be a big charity that gets lots of money from everywhere, i think it should be a lesser known charity, and one that people on HBH can relate to, and would want to give to.
Getting media attention would be brilliant, but the main part is trying to make difference.
Any suggestions for a charity?
AbSoRb information, and use it wisely.

Thanks for the awesome sig Flash !

what about http://www.ucandoit.org.uk
Computer training for the disabled seems fairly appropriate.
I'd love to donate, but as others have pointed out, Credit cards and paypal are a no-no for me. I'd donate by post though.
Mr_Cheese, isn't there something that the post office will do about charity donations? Maybe I made that up in my head, but something tells me you can something set up where people can donate just by visiting a post office. Failing that, you could always get a PO box and get donations delivered there, if it's your address that you don't want to give away.

For everyone that can not donate via paypal (Like me, dont have an account or card) we could set up certain members (In our countries) that we can send cash or check to, and have them donate via paypal for us. I mean we would have to have some sort of reciept thing to show that it is going where it should but it could work if we pick the right people.

good idea for a charity. More suggestions welcome. We have to pick the chairty carefully. Primarily we want to donate to one where our money will make a difference and also one that could perhaps get media attention.
For people paying by post in the UK. I will supply a address to send the checks/cash to. The idea of donating via paypal is there is no age restriction on setting up a account, so you could set up an account and ask your parents to send some paypal money into your account. Just an idea!
Im glad this has had such a high responce. I really hope we raise enough money to make a differnce

Well, I just heard on the radio about a site called guidestar. You can search through, and get detailed information about every single charity in the UK.
