Before we put this plan into action, i'd like to see the ppularity of it, and see if its worth doing.
Basically "Exclusive Membership" = paying for increased services/options on HBH
Its designed to not only increase options for members, but to enable HBH with a constant flow of revenue, so we can continue to purchase hosting.
The estimated cost of purchasing "Exclusive Membership" for a month is $1 to begin with. If it proves popular, then we will increase it to $2 and also increase the aount of effort and time we put into scblockedripting new things.
Here is a list of what is in store:
$1 a month:
- Unlimited PM box (PM's soon to be reduced to decrease DB size/spam)
- Beta testing challenges before release
- oppurtunity to help with production of challenges
- Customizable user "title" thats visible on profile page + forums
- a @hellboundhackers.org email address
- Exclusive Members forum (for more educated conversation)
$2 a month (depending on popularity):
+ Exclusive Members competitions, that result in Prizes. (such as HBH T-Shirt/Mouse mat or special software fully paid for etc)
+ more frequent Challenges will be avaible at HBH
+ hosting package (200mb space / 3GB bandwidth)
So, what do people think? Is it reasonable? Are there more things you think should be added on the list?

Absolutely not! Alright, the increased options are alright, but only releasing "special" challenges to private membership is just wrong. Isn't this supposed to be about learning/public information and now you're making it about money. Even that t-shirt thing seems a bit wrong to me, since when should making a shirt give you 30 more points than accomplishing real 7. Isn't this what most people call a sell-out?

yeah i understnad what your saying, and its what i was worried about.
as you know, running websites isnt free, and its very time consuming, so to put it simply. HBH NEEDS funding. this idea provides hbh with a constant supply so that we have enough to pay for hosting etc. If HBH has extra funds, we could do so much more. have much better competitions, setup out standing events, and have plenty more challenges and much more things.
The reason we thought perhaps have exclusive challenges, was because we need to give the "exclusive members" a reason for signing up. Otherwise, no one would do it, and the idea is a waste of time. Also yes hbh is about learning. minus teh challenge suggestion, Exclusive Membership doesnt prevent or give people a advantage over someone in regards to learning.
If you can think of another suggestion, that would attract exclusive members, then by all means tell me, because im not 100% happy with exclusive only challenges, but as i said before, we need something to make it attract members.

Yeh i dont really agree on the idea......... i think u should create a poll "Will you apply for the exclusive membershit.. excuse me membership  " mmm not if u agree to the idea, if u'll get this membership...... and if the number is reasonable, yeah maybe you should do it, but personally im against it |

NO, I understand the t-shirt thing to get money, but one of the hacker ideals that dates back to the golden days opf MIT is the information should be free. No offense or anything, but I'm disgusted and offended as a hacker that you should even think of that. How many admins are behind this?
We hack for different reasons, but we don't want to pay money for something that we enjoy to the point of breaking the law. I spit on the Idea

ok, if we removed the "Exclusive challenges".. and made them public to HBH community would that solve everything??
because then you are only paying for increased services that doesnt affect anyones learning in any way.

yeah i think thats the only way to do it. i think its a great idea and its been working for Frozen Flame and his sites. And as of the release of the second Zine ppl can get membership for special zine passes where they get:
Gold membership costs only $5 a year!
Here is what you get:
200mb webspace and 4gb bandwidth (No extra charge) Free subdomain included
Private forum for Gold Members to discuss anything.
Private viewings of whats soon to come and view the Zine a week before release date!
Talk with the Staff in a private chat area.
Discuss future Zine plans head to head with staff members and maybe even get a chance to join!

ok, now its been decided there will not be any challenges that are for exclusive members only. It wasnt 100% wanted, and the replies have just confirmed our suspisoins.

now that u guys have taken out the extra challenges i think its a good idea to make a exclusive membership and the @hellboundhackers.org sounds cool, the gold membership on frozen flames site is a good idea too.

I really like the idea. The @hellboundhackers.org would be pretty cool, and having your own customizeable title sounds good.
I have a couple questions, because i probably wouldn't be able to pay over the internet.
1. Would i be able to pay through the post
2. Would i be able to pay in advance, like $12 straight away to pay for the next 12 months
Overall, cant wait to see it be put into action.

Yes, payment in advance is perfectly acceptable.

If you are in the UK you can send payments directly to be via post (cash only, if amount < รฦรขโฌลกรโรยฃ10). However if you are in america, depending on how many people wishing to pay via post, we could organise a american administrator to handle US payments.

Im in the UK, so im pretty sure ill be able to pay. Since the payment is in dollars, will i be paying (around) 60p per month , e.g. say if i just wanna try one month, or if i go on holiday for a couple weeks one month, so i decide not to have that month ?
