What about having some other programing challenges than the one (timed) we have now?

I think if you make some Basic Web Programming challenges it would be easier for the new members. Than it would be a great ide to have like simpler c++, php, and javascblockedript!

More pepole would understand the hacking challenges and more pepole should learn! What do you think?

((Sorry for the bad English))

I'd love to see more programming challenges.
However, if they're not required to solve something in a short time the only way I can see is to let an admin check the code.
This puts a lot of work on the admins and I believe that's not too popular.

But i belive that you can make it like a "what variable is missing?" kind of answer.
Or things like "set up a javascblockedript login at your site."

I realized precisely that it would not create a multitude, Another system for that would be to "hire" special "programing challenge admins."

I don't know exactly how it could be done so i guess that we can discuss it, how can it be done?

Sure, it'd be cool.
If it got through and someone with the appropriate rights initiated it, it would be great.

What if we set some up kinda like ProjectEuler.net?

(Like logical but you have to make a program that solves something. [E.G. find the 100001st prime number].

EDIT: Tell you guys what. I will make a page (kinda set up like the ones in the steg and ecrpytion pages) for this and submit it. If you have any ideas of prospective ones, PM me and I will start coding it here in about 30 minutes.

Debugging is what programmers do to beta software to make it take up more room on your hard drive if it is running too efficiently.

Yeah, that's a good idea worth tinkering on.

I do think it'd be a good idea to make the answers vary to prevent cheating, but if you don't want "Timed Challenges" maybe a new type could be introduced where you have like 2 minutes to complete it instead of just a few seconds.

1) Programming activity on HBH is waaayyy to low.
2) Programming skill on HBH is _reasonably_ low.

It's a self-sustaining cycle. An endless repeat of stupidity.

How we break it, you ask?

Scare the stupid people away.

I am going to make every question on it be as dynamic as possible. Like from my example above, make it gove you a number from 1000-10000.

These are boring challenges.

Wait, these aren't even challenges. It's all just grab number+do math.

Yawn.

Shouldn't we be curing cancer instead? Just a thought...

Raising the skill percentage by lowering the sample size is not a good solution. The whole purpose of this site is increasing knowledge.

And I'm pretty sure this idea was suggested in another thread recently.

We have this forum + a bunch of challenges which should do the trick. They don't.

Perhaps you're right, we need (a) new way(s) of making people less stupid.

like banning spyware (again), anyways, I will code up quite a few chals for it and see what a few people think... Should keep HBH busy for a while.

Spyware being banned won't solve anything.

However, Spyware promoted back to Admin, now that would be heaven.

You may code up some challenges if you like, but it is unlikely this idea will go ahead.

Regarding new types of challenges of programming nature I have put forward my ideas several times, I'm sure some can keep focus long enough to remember.
More timed challenges: in favour, obviously more of them would be nice.
Challenges that require you to code something for an admin to look through: against, too much of a waste of time for admins.
Spyware being promoted to admin: in favour. Besides, with all the admin privileges being thrown out to anyone who asks for it, might as well get another decent one. From what I've gathered there's been a hell of a worse choice(s) for it anyway.

Guys, you're walking down a road with a dead end. You'd best drop the subject of new admins.

In other news, what the fuck is up with the new admins? -cL? Yours31f? So now we've got two incompetent staff members; one who is never here and one who is ALWAYS here bothering people who don't want to be bothered.

Who hired these goons?

No one has hired Yours31f. He is not going to be an admin. Not now, not in the near foreseeable future, not ever.

-cL, yes he is not always here, but he is still helping the community; for example, he coded Real 18 alongside Moshbat. And his privs are limited, so there isn't too much he can do anyhow.

Yours31f himself said that he "got the green light from Cheese".

Is he just lying?
