any webmasters in here thought of hosting a bbs?
I'd be interested in finding some new hacker oriented ones. I thought about setting one up, but i don't really have the time to configure everything.

are you talking old school, telnet BBS?
I'd be pumped to have one. not really sure on how to set it up tho...i may look into it

im looking at it. i wanna set it up to work both as telnet via IP and modem with a phone number. That way you can use it without inet....
What i wanna set up is a system that all you need is a phone...plug your laptop/pc in you can get text inet, anywhere...free. This way, when you are somewhere they charge a shitload for inet (hotel or such) you can get it cheap, or hopefully free.
It'll also roll with an IP for better connection and those that don't wanna use/ or cant use a modem.
I;m gunna have a BBS system, text inet, telnet, ftp, tools...hopefully...
you're gunna have to register an account tho....so i can control traffic...
This is still in the planing phase....may not happen....anyone got comments or would like to help, lemme know

arbornet.org use telnet...free accounts....

A bbs is a bulletin board system. Basically before forums existed there were bbses. Look more on Wikipedia. I have one running on my computer, comes full with smtp, ftp, irc, and the bbs! I couldn't get port 23 to open so I had to go to port 666. I use synchronet BBS it is one of the best out there I think. It is extremely easy to set up and use.

im trying to get it running off of my http server that my site runs on....
i cant run it from my computer...damned dorm room inet.
