Configuring Dynamic Addressing

advertisement

website security Coursework I did on dynamic Addressing

I have just completed a BASIC network design and admin unit at college, thought i would post a little of the work.

Configuring A Dynamic IP is an important part of adding a computer to a network. The I.P address gives the computer an address on the network, which allows it to communicate with other computers and devices.
The following steps demonstrate configuring a dynamic I.P address.

First we need to access the control panel from the start menu.

Now we need to navigate to the ‘Network Connections’ option in the control panel.

Now the network that we want to configure the IP address for. You may find your LAN is called ‘Local Area Network’.

Now we want to look at the properties for the internet protocol (TCP/IP).
Select internet protocol from the menu and select the ‘properties’ menu.

Now choose the option to ‘Obtain an IP address automatically.
Your IP address should now be configured.

To check that our IP address has been configured we can use the IPCONFIG tool. The IPCONFIG tool is a command line based tool that allows for a user to see what the status of their IP address is. Below I will explain in more detail how to access and use the IPCONFIG tool.

First navigate to the ‘Run’ option in the start menu.

Now In the box type ‘cmd’.

Now we are in the command line. From here we simply type IPCONFIG and the results will be displayed.

You should now be displayed with a list, each with an address next to them. E.g;
IP Address:000.000.0.0
Subnet mask:000.000.000.0
Default Gateway:000.000.0.000

This means that the IP address has been configured correctly. If there was no IP address displayed, we would need to go back and try to configure the IP address again.
