I would like to see an instant messenger for mentors, where you could message mentors for specific challenges. A mentor registers himself for a challenge, a member clicks on a challenge, a new window will find every mentor for that challenge being online at that moment. The member clicks on the mentor of his choice, and it starts an instant messenger which allow them to talk. Something amongst those lines.

definately sounds good. @MolesteD_: that just gives people an excuse to not learn how to research properly. the IRC is always there =P
MolesteD_ on July 06 2011 - 05:03:37
The IRC is filled with abusing operators whom insult newcomers til they eventually leave. Also, one could help him researching the matter of the topic quicker. Not to mention it would replace the mentor forum. The place where topics get closed before I can even reply, since I would not mind being a mentor at all.
starofale on July 06 2011 - 12:13:42
I personally think that the mentor forum is better than having a mentor for each challenge. Yes, not many people get mentors, but there wouldn't be anything to stop idiots mentoring people if it was all done privately like you suggest. I also agree with what kaden said - making it easier to get a mentor would make people lazy. Just try to be quicker to respond next time a mentor thread comes up :D

Well, whatever people's personal problems are, I think that since the challenges generally don't tend to show off much more than one concept or are just eerily specific, you hardly need mentors for them. Furthermore, calling somebody helping with challenges a mentor is really devaluing the word, but then you could always just call them something else. I say people might as well just check your profile and PM you if you have completed it.

An non-mentor related suggestion from me: please add a notification for the shoutbox letting people know if their post is too long. I'd also like the maximum length of shoutbox posts to be increased.

Actually, drewid requested me to stop the jokes. 2 days later I was having an actual normal conversation with *goat, without jokes. The irony is that he also requested CPU/Sara to stop complaining which she did not. And like I just stated, I did. However, i'm the one getting banned by her boyfriend.

Would also be cool to have an intergrated irc client that WASN'T mibbit.. if thats possible :D.. I'll try and think of some decent idea's =P
starofale on July 07 2011 - 13:21:56
I don't think Mibbit's that bad for a web based IRC client, but the version that is linked to on HBH is not as good as the standard client on mibbit.com. Just updating to use the normal Mibbit client would be an improvement.

perhaps an explanation of the concept after completion for some of the missions? I know that for a while i knew that SQL injections worked, but not why, and it was hard to find an explanation online that did not require a semi-complete understanding of MySQL (or other various flavours) or PHP. Possibly even a suggestion of how to prevent it? It is very easy to learn a tonne of basic exploits without knowing how they can be prevented. Just a thought. </pipeline>
th3l05tpr0ph3tz on July 11 2011 - 01:37:34
Oh! maybe a download bank, with links to things like JTR, GCC (for macs and windows) and other user-created programmes. </pipeline>

I don't think a hacking oriented website should offer binary blobs. Share code, not compiled code.
kaden on July 12 2011 - 06:57:32
HBH used to have a download bank ages ago. it was either removed, or I just cant find it xD but a agree with Spyware. I think its better if we just keep the codebank instead. People can always post any programs they make/know of. And doing your research and finding the products yourself is half of the fun of using them. Its teaching beginners how important it is to do research on their own, which is a major part of hacking. It makes it too easy for them if everything is just given to them in my opinion.
Mr_Cheese on July 12 2011 - 13:59:18
we used to have a download section, but as the server was hosted in germany i decided to remove it to comply with germany's laws on linking to hacking/security tools. server is no longer in germany so adding the download section again will be fine.
kaden on July 25 2011 - 08:09:01
Any updates on how this is going? :D

I can't believe I forgot this before: please allow links to https sites.

Sorry.

You must have completed the challenge Basic 1 and have 100 points or more, to be able to post.

- Latest Developments

There's been some question into Mordaks sudden appearance and status in HBH. This news post should answer some of those questions.

Mordak?
He's been around on this site for years but under various alias. With years in the professional web development industry, Mordak is working developing HBH v2 which we aim to beta in a couple of weeks.

What is HBH v2?
A complete rewrite behind the scenes that allow for serious, rapid and professional expansion of HBH. New features for EM and non EM members. More challenges.

We are also releasing a challenge developers documentation. Anyone can download this documentation and straight away start coding challenges that are compatible with our system.

What does this mean for HBH?
Rapid expansion, tonnes of new features, new challenges and most importantly giving those who have been itching to be developers a chance for them to start building and adding features that you guys want. All of this will combine to really rekindle the HBH community fire. Very exciting!

Got an idea for HBH v2 or a new feature you would like to see? Post it below or send a PM to Mordak.
